Day 1 | Lima: You will be picked up from the airport, and taken to the heart of Lima’s bohemian neighborhood – Barranco – to explore the many museums, restaurants, and bars.

Day 2 | Lima to Cusco via Plane: Spend the morning wandering Barranco before departing to Cusco to experience Peru’s colonial charm.

Day 3 | Cusco: Depart Cusco to the Sacred Valley to experience the culturally rich Pisaq, the locally grown food of Urubamba, and the ancient ruins of Ollantaytambo.

Day 4 | Machu Picchu to Cusco: Depart Cusco to Machu Picchu aboard the luxurious Hiram Bingham train complete with three-course brunch and Peruvian wine. Arrive to Machu Picchu early afternoon when most of the groups have started to leave, and explore the park with a guide before a relaxing departure train in the evening.

Day 5 | Cusco to The Amazon via Plane: Travel from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado where you will journey by car and boat through Tambopata National Reserve to your exclusive bungalow. From here, you’ll have opportunity to observe local wildlife and birdlife in an idyllic setting.

Day 6 | The Amazon: Awake to the sounds of the jungle before observing wildlife from the 30 meter observation tower, kayaking the river, or visiting a local farm. Spend the evening at your leisure, or embark on a night walk to discover frogs, insects, and other nocturnal creatures.

Day 7 | The Amazon to Cusco via Plane: Enjoy your last morning in the jungle before departing by boat, and flying back to Cusco.

Day 8 | Cusco to Puno via Luxury Train: Leave Cusco for Puno aboard the Belmond Andean Explorer, South America’s first luxury sleeper. It is a short journey, but aboard the train, you will also savor Andean specialties, make stops, have tea, and sleep in absolute comfort.

Day 9 | Lake Titicaca to Arequipa via Luxury Train: Catch the sunrise at Lake Titicaca before embarking on a boat trip to rarely explored islands. Get back onboard the train in the evening to continue your journey onto the gorgeous city of Arequipa.

Day 10 | Arequipa: Visit the spellbinding highlights of Arequipa from Lake Lagunillas to the Sumbay Caves. Spend your evening wandering the white-walled city at your own pace.

Day 11 | Arequipa: With colonial buildings and surrounding volcanoes, Arequipa is undoubtedly a Peruvian highlight. Get to know the city on a private walking tour that will take you past notable landmarks and viewpoints.

Day 12 | Arequipa to Lima via Plane: On the final day of your Peru Highlights tour, you will be transported to the airport for your flight back to Lima.

Day One : Welcome to Peru

Hotel B Barranco, Peru Upon your arrival in the beautiful colonial city of Lima, a professional driver will welcome you and escort you from the airport to your designated accommodation. Your hotel will be located in the heart of Barranco, a district of Lima considered to be the city’s most romantic and bohemian. This area is home to many of Peru’s leading artists, musicians, designers, and photographers. After the experiences of your first day of travel, enjoy the night in Lima.

Day Two : Cuzco, the capital of the Inca empire

After enjoying a night in Lima, take the morning to explore Barranco. With colorful art deco buildings, picturesque parks and numerous eateries you will have no problem enjoying its leafy streets. If time permits be sure to follow the historic Bajada de los Baños, a historic pathway that leads to the water’s edge. Later in the afternoon you will depart for Cusco, the capital of the Inca Empire, where in the afternoon you will depart on an informative city tour of Cusco, with highlights including exploring the Inca fortresses Sacsayhuaman and Tambomachay, once a spa area for the Incas. You’ll also be able to visit the Cathedral located in the Plaza de Armas.

Day Three : The sacred valley of the Incas

After breakfast, you will meet your guide to depart for a private tour of the Sacred Valley. Admire the stunning views of the impressive Vilcanota River as you make your way to the village of Pisac. Known for its historic mountain top archeological ruins, this culturally rich community is also famous for its vivid artisanal market. Continuing on you’ll wind through the Sacred Valley, passing through scenic towns, terraced Inca platforms, and many extensive prairies where fields of Inca white corn still sway in the wind. Once in Urubamba you will have lunch, then continue to the charming village of Ollantaytambo where you will have time to wander amongst the ancient ruins. Before heading back to your accommodation in Cuzco, you’ll stop one last time at Chinchero, the most typical Andean town in the Sacred Valley. Its inhabitants live in almost untouched Incan constructions preserving the traditions of their ancestors who formed the greatest and most prosperous civilization in the Americas.

Day Four: A magical journey to Machu Picchu

After enjoying a tranquil night in Cusco, a driver will greet you at your hotel and escort you to the train station of Poroy. Traveling on the Hiram Bingham train will assures a magical journey, never to be forgotten. Named after the explorer who rediscovered the Inca citadel, the train is pure vintage luxury. Enjoy a glass of sparkling wine as you make your way into the Sacred Valley, feasting on a delightful three-course brunch accompanied by a selection of Peruvian wines. After the ride you will be rested and ready to explore Machu Picchu. A late morning arrival enables you to explore this wonder of the world with a guide when most other visitors are starting to leave. You will leave no stone unturned as you learn about the ancient city and its rediscovery in 1911. After the guided visit of Machu Picchu and with an enigmatic day behind you, you will make your way to the train station where you will catch the Hiram Bingham train to Poroy. Enjoy a four-course Andean-inspired gourmet meal and visit the bar car for drinks and dancing with music provided by a traditional Peruvian live band. Upon your arrival in Poroy a driver will greet you at the train station, and you will be transported to your hotel in Cuzco.

Day Five : Beginning of your jungle experience

Say goodbye to Cusco as you start your journey to Puerto Madonaldo, the capital of the Madre de Dios Region. Upon arrival, you will be greeted and transferred to our Puerto Maldonado headquarters before embarking on a short drive to the Tambopata River port. Boarding a boat, take in the scenery as you enter the 1.3 million hectare Tambopata National Reserve. Disembark at Amazon Villa, your exclusive private bungalow in the heart of the rainforest where you can relax among some of the most bio diverse surroundings on the planet. Enjoy views of a beautiful garden backed by majestic primary rainforests, and watch for monkeys and hundreds of exotic birds. Settle in to your bungalow; later enjoying a romantic dinner featuring delicious Peruvian cuisine.

Day Six : The canopy tower

Awake to the wild sounds of the jungle and prepare for a day of exploration with an energizing breakfast.  After a delightful start to your day discover the complexity of the rainforest whilst climbing a 30 metre Canopy Tower. With an experienced guide look for and identify colorful toucans, parrots, jacamars, trogons and other rainforest wildlife. Continue exploring the wonders of the Peruvian Amazon as you quietly kayak or paddleboard along the edge of a river flanked by majestic rainforest and diverse fauna. Take a dip in the river to cool off before returning for lunch. In the afternoon take some time to relax in your bungalow or visit a small farm where a variety of plants are grown for food, decorations, and medicinal properties. Watch the sunset and reminisce on the day’s adventures as you dine in your bungalow. Turn in early or if you wish, a guide will take you on night walk through the jungle so you can experience the bizarre and beautiful frogs, insects, and other animals that are most active at night.

Day Seven : Welcome back to the capital of the Inca empire

Cherish one last morning of waking up in a jungle paradise with a healthy breakfast. Soak in the beauty as you pack your bags before retracing your steps by water and land to the Puerto Maldonado headquarters.  A private transfer will be waiting to escort you to the airport to continue your travels or head home after your great Peruvian adventure. From the airport in Puerto Maldonado, you will depart for Cusco, the capital of the Inca empire. Upon your arrival in the former capital of the Inca Empire, a driver will welcome you and transfer you from the airport to your designated accommodation.

Day Eight : The Peruvian highlands onboard South America´s first luxury sleeper train

After a good night's rest and accordingly based on your train schedule, your guide and a professional driver will meet you at your hotel in Cuzco and will drive you to the train station. Travelling the Peruvian Highlands with a touch of class is offered in abundance by the newly launched Belmond Andean Explorer. South America´s first luxury sleeper train will glide through one of the world’s highest train routes, taking you on a two night journey of incomparable delights. You will board the Andean Explorer in Cusco, once the capital of the inimitable Incan Empire. Sink into indulgence to the sound of a medium grand piano as you start in the direction of Puno. Lunch will be served from a menu crafted by chefs from Belmond´s own Hotel Monasterio, one of the most luxurious hotels in Cusco. Savour refined Andean specialties blended with distinct contemporary flair as you arrive at your first stop, the Incan control point of Raqchi. A place of immense cultural depth, you will see first hand how the ancient Empire once demonstrated their prowess. Return to your new lodgings for a tea time refresher, perfect for watching the sun set over the spectacular La Raya mountain range, where peaks reach over 18,000 feet. End your day by preparing for a dinner of upmost elegance before seeing the evening out with an expertly crafted cocktail in the train´s sumptuous Observation Car. Debrief over your first full day in elegance with new friends and a drink in hand.

Day Nine : Catch the sunrise over the lake Titicaca

Awake to your second day in time to catch the sunrise over Lake Titicaca, the largest of its kind in South America. After breakfast you will be taking a traditional boat ride out to the Uros Islands, a feat of mankind made entirely from woven reeds. Your tour of the lake will continue via the Taquile island, a place barely touched by time as its 2000 inhabitants work hard to maintain traditional Quecha customs. Lunch will be served on a private beach on the shore of the great lake, backdropped by demonstrations of traditional dance and artisan crafting. Your day of exploring new cultures will be rewarded with tea as the train starts toward the White City of Arequipa. You will pull in for the night as dinner and cocktails are served, before retiring for a third and final day of Andean delights.

Day Ten : Welcome to Arequipa

On day three you will start with breakfast and a visit to the spellbinding Lake Lagunillas, with its rugged scenery and azure blue waters. Then, prepare to be taken back in time upon visiting the Sumbay Caves, where interior wall paintings are estimated to be 8000 years old. A final lunch will be served as you return to Arequipa, where you will disembark for your transfer to your hotel in the White City. We wish you remarkable and treasured memories from your time on the Andean Explorer.

Day Eleven : Arequipa, the enchanting white city

Take advantage of this morning to explore Arequipa at your own pace. Stunning colonial buildings made of pearly sillar stone vie for attention with the surrounding volcanoes and snow-capped peaks of the western Andes. Arequipa is home to Peru’s gastronomic renaissance and is the premier place to experience traditional food with a modern twist better known as Novoandina (New Andean cuisine). At around 1:30 p.m. you will depart on a private tour of the city. Highlights include viewing landmarks such as the Santa Catalina Monastery and the delightful houses and buildings surrounding the main square. As you experience the city, it is impossible not to marvel at the spectacular views of Mount Misti, an active volcano towering above Arequipa at 5800 meters. After your tour, you may return to your hotel for the night or continue to enjoy all that this beautiful city has to offer.

Day Twelve : Wonderful memories

In the morning your guide and a professional driver will greet you at your accommodation in Arequipa and will escort you to the airport. From the airport in Arequipa, the white city, you will depart for Lima, the capital of Peru. Although it will be difficult to leave such a beautiful and unique place, you can take with you the wonderful memories of the experiences and adventures that you have had in Peru.
