Discover our exciting but contrasting La Paz Bolivia Tours
Our range of La Paz Bolivia tours give you the chance to fully utilise your time in this busy metropolitan. La Paz is the highest capital city in the world. It also hosts the longest and highest city cable car network in the world. It’s bursting with rich history, colonial architecture, different cultures and surrounded by snow-capped mountains. The city serves as a hub for travel to other tours across the country and around the city itself. These La Paz city tours range from adrenaline filled sports, hiking through beautiful landscapes or exploring hidden areas of the city.
It’s also worth noting that between the months of May and June, the whole city stops to celebrate Gran Poder, a religious festival. Thousands of people dress up in bright costumes and parade the streets, a fun time to be in the city. So it doesn’t matter whether you are coming to La Paz for a day or a month. There is always something for everyone in this altitudinous capital.
Explore the area outside the city
Discover the notorious ‘worlds most dangerous road‘ from La Cumbre to Coroico. Bike downhill for 4-5 hours through cloud forests and unbelievable mountain scenery. Reach over 6000m above sea level whilst climbing Huayna Potosi. This 2-day climb is an easy trek but altitude can play a part so should not be attempted without acclimatisation. But if 6000m seems a little steep for you then why not try Chacaltaya instead? This peak sits at 5421m and gives beautiful views of Cordillera Real mountain range.
Or visit Moon Valley, 10km outside of La Paz City. This strange terrain is made up of tall spires formed from erosion of a clay mountain, earning its name from the lunar-like scenery. Stop by the UNESCO world heritage site of Tiahuanaco, this archeological site was thought to be a cosmological area for the Tiwanaku empire around 300BC and 300AD. The area was restored for tourists in the 1960s and is now a popular day trip from La Paz.
Our city tours are bursting with culture
Want to explore the city? Then our La Paz City tours will keep things local and teach you all about heritage and culture. For example, visit the famous Witches market. This market in a lively touristic area of the city offers a number of strange ingredients used in history as a way to communicate with the spirit world. Here you will find witch doctors roaming the market and selling fortunes to tourists. Among the strange ingredients available for sale, the dried Llama fetuses are likely the most famous and controversial. These animals are buried under land where buildings are going to be constructed as an offering to Pachamama, the goddess of earth and time. It is believed the workers will then be kept safe throughout the process.
Or explore the city by foot on a walking tour of La Paz. Our guides will take you to otherwise hidden areas of the city whilst teaching you the rich history of its inhabitants and the different famous buildings around the area. We hope you don’t hesitate to see the real Bolivia with our range of La Paz Bolivia Tours.
