Day 1
Rise and shine: you’re scheduled for an early-bird pickup at your Arequipa accommodation to begin the Best Colca Canyon tour. You will first start your adventure by visiting the Pampa Cañahua National Reserve. Located in the foothills of the Chachani and Misti volcanoes, this reserve hosts breathtaking views of the surrounding terrain, Andean wildlife and all. For instance, you are bound to cross herds of vicuñas, llamas and abundant birdlife, such as flamingos, ibises and even Andean eagles! Thereafter, you will climb up to the Patapampa Pass to witness a sublime view of the snow-capped volcanoes Ampato, Sabancaya and Hualca-Hualca. Finally, you will descend into the Colca Valley, where you spend the night with a local family in Coporaque. Though they only have shared bathrooms, you’ll find comfort in having your own private room, decked with two beds and the warmest blankets. Once you arrive there, you will attend a hearty lunch with the host family. But as a forewarning, they only speak Spanish. So if you’re not fluent already, have a go at practicing their mother tongue while chowing down! After lunch, your host family will take you on a 2-hour walk around the area, and you’ll be able to revel in the natural beauty of Coporaque. The fun isn’t over yet: relaxation then comes in the form of nearby hot springs. Take a dip to calm your muscles! Following the hot springs, your host family will prepare a lavish dinner so you can sleep with a satisfied stomach.
Day 2
Wake up and sit back as your host family presents you with another mouthwatering meal. After breakfast, you will bid adieu to your host family then head for Yanque to watch a traditional Wititi dance. Next on the itinerary is a visit to Cruz del Condor. Here, you can watch condors soar high above the rocks, as undisputed rulers of their natural habitat. Once this adventure ends, you will hop in the van and drive along the rim of the Colca Canyon. On the way home, your tour guide will make multiple stops at local villages, where you can further snap candid pictures of bustling valley life. Accordingly, you will be dropped off at your Arequipa accommodation, which thus concludes the Best Colca Canyon tour.
