Day One: Iquitos – Muyuna Lodge – Day Boat Trip – Evening Boat Ride
Your Iquitos Amazon Adventure starts by firstly arriving in Iquitos. Here you’re able to accomplish last-minute preparations for your trip, like purchasing extra bug spray or flashlight batteries. Next, you’ll sweep the Amazon via speedboat, arriving thereafter at your accommodation, the charming Muyuna Lodge. After a warming introduction from lodge staff, you’ll hop in a boat again to begin your day activity. Cruising to local lakes, help your tour guide spot birds, sloths and monkeys hidden in vast jungle greenery. Following sunset, take an evening boat ride as daylight melts, searching for nocturnal creatures like caimans.
Day Two: Lake Casha – Piranha Fishing at Lake Purara and Corrientes – Night Walk
Rise and shine: the first activity of the day is a morning boat cruise to Lake Casha. Train your eyes to spot darting wildlife, as monkeys and birds are residence of this region and, as you will soon discover, these creatures are an elusive bunch. After enjoying lunch, you are given the opportunity to go piranha fishing at the lakes Purara and Corrientes. While waiting for your catch, strangler vines and the prehistoric bird, the hoatzin, will enchant your imagination. Once dinner is over, you’ll take a night walk in search of creepy crawlers like tarantulas, giant frogs and anacondas.
Day Three: Jungle Walk – San Juan de Yanayacu Community – Nocturnal Canoe Ride
Eat a hearty breakfast, for the activity following thereafter is a 5-hour jungle walk. Along the trail, you’ll witness a vivacious array of flora and fauna, and perhaps even spot the rare Ocelot. Following a well-deserved lunch, your guide will then lead you to the San Juan de Yanayacu community. Here you can connect with locals, buy handicrafts or merely explore this remote village. End the day by taking another nocturnal canoe ride through the jungle.
Day Four: Pink River Dolphins – Victoria Regia – Departure to Iquitos
Today, you’ll have breakfast onboard a small boat, where you can witness the endangered Amazon river dolphins, or search for iguanas on the riverbank. You’ll also glide alongside the biggest aquatic plant in the world, the famous Victoria Regia. Over lunch, you can discuss all of your fabulous wildlife encounters during the Iquitos Amazon Adventure before boating back to Iquitos.
