Make the journey your own with carefully selected hotels, stargazing on the Salar, sunrise experiences and flexible private touring.
This private 8-day Peru and Bolivia tour connects Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu with La Paz and the Uyuni Salt Flats. The route has been designed to make good use of each day while leaving enough space to actually enjoy the places you came to see.
Welcome to the Andes.
Upon arrival at Cusco Airport, your private driver will meet you and take you directly to your hotel.
We deliberately keep your first day easy. Cusco sits at 3,400 meters above sea level, and there is no prize for trying to see everything within three hours of landing.
Settle in, take a slow walk through the historic center, have an early dinner or simply enjoy your hotel while your body begins adjusting to the altitude.
If you feel energetic, wander around the Plaza de Armas and the narrow streets of San Blas. If not, tomorrow is another day.
Overnight: Cusco
Hotel : La Quinta San Blas de Ananay Boutique Hotel or similar
After breakfast, leave Cusco with your private English-speaking guide and travel into the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Today is not about rushing through every archaeological site on the map. Your private Sacred Valley tour allows the route to move at a comfortable pace, with time for the landscapes and villages between the major stops.
Explore Moray, where enormous circular terraces descend into the earth, before continuing to the remarkable Maras Salt Mines, where thousands of salt pools have been worked by local families for generations.
Continue through the Sacred Valley toward Ollantaytambo, with time for lunch and, depending on the final itinerary, a visit to the town or archaeological site.
At approximately 4:30 PM, board the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes. Train VOYAGER INCA RAIL
The railway follows the Urubamba River as the dry Sacred Valley gradually gives way to greener mountain scenery.
Arrive in Aguas Calientes in the early evening and settle into your hotel, ready for an early start the following morning.
Overnight: Aguas Calientes – Hotel Tierra Viva Machu Picchu or similar
Today begins with the place that brought most travelers to Peru in the first place.
Travel up to Machu Picchu for an early morning visit with your private guide.
Rather than simply walking from viewpoint to viewpoint, take time to understand how the citadel was built, how its spaces were used and why its location among these mountains remains so remarkable.
Your guide will accompany you through the circuit selected for your entrance ticket, giving context to the temples, terraces and surrounding peaks.
After the visit, return to Aguas Calientes and board the train back toward Ollantaytambo.
Your private driver will be waiting at the station for the journey back to Cusco.
Arrival is expected at approximately 4:00 PM, depending on the selected train schedule.
The evening is yours. After three days of Andean roads, trains and ancient cities, dinner and a glass of something good may be enough.
Machu Picchu circuits depend on how early you book. Around 4 months in advance, we usually aim for Circuit 2; around 2 months, availability is more likely to be Circuit 3; and with only 1 month, Circuit 1 may be the main option.
All entrances are subject to official availability, so booking early gives you more choice.
Overnight: Cusco – Hotel Quinta San Blas -Ananay or similar
Enjoy a relaxed morning in Cusco before your private transfer to the airport.
Take the direct flight from Cusco to La Paz, currently scheduled to depart at approximately 12:30 PM and arrive around 2:45 PM local time, subject to airline schedules.
This flight makes the transition between Peru and Bolivia particularly convenient and is one of the reasons this Peru and Bolivia itinerary works so well in eight days.
Upon arrival, meet your driver and transfer privately to your hotel.
The remainder of the afternoon is free. La Paz sits dramatically inside a deep valley surrounded by mountains, and even the drive from the airport gives you your first sense that Bolivia is going to look very different from Peru.
Take the evening slowly before exploring the city the following day.
Overnight: La Paz – Hotel Rosario Collection or similar
The Cusco–La Paz flight is not included in the base tour price. You can book it independently, or add it to your reservation and we will arrange it for you.
Today you can choose between two private half-day experiences with your English-speaking guide.
Explore the historic heart of La Paz, its streets, markets and viewpoints before taking to the air on Mi Teleférico, the city’s extraordinary cable car system.
More than transportation, the cable cars offer one of the best perspectives of La Paz. From above, you can see how the city climbs across hillsides and fills almost every available corner of the valley.
It is a fascinating introduction to everyday life in one of South America’s most unusual urban landscapes.
For something quieter, travel outside central La Paz to Moon Valley.
Walk through a maze of sculpted clay and sandstone formations created by centuries of erosion, with strange pinnacles and narrow pathways set against the mountains surrounding the city.
Return to your hotel afterward and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.
Whichever option you choose, the afternoon is intentionally free. Tomorrow morning begins early.
Overnight: La Paz-Hotel Rosario Collection or similar
Early morning transfer to La Paz Airport for the approximately 7:00 AM flight to Uyuni, arriving around 8:00 AM, subject to airline schedules.
There is little reason to spend an entire day in Uyuni town, so after breakfast and some time to settle in, meet your private English-speaking guide and driver at around 10:00 AM and head straight into the landscapes you came to see.
Begin at the Train Cemetery, where abandoned locomotives sit slowly rusting into the desert, before continuing to Colchani, a small community at the edge of the Salar.
Then the horizon opens.
Drive onto the immense Salar de Uyuni, one of the largest salt flats on Earth.
During the dry season, the surface becomes a vast white expanse broken by geometric salt patterns. During periods of rain, suitable conditions can create the celebrated mirror effect, turning the horizon almost invisible.
Because this is a private Uyuni Salt Flats tour, there is time to stop when the light changes, take photographs, move away from busier areas and enjoy the scale and silence of the Salar without following a group schedule.
Finish the afternoon at your carefully selected salt hotel near the Salar.
If you want to experience Uyuni after dark, add a private stargazing excursion to your booking.
Return to the Salar after dinner and enjoy the night sky far from urban lights. Visibility and photographic conditions depend on weather, cloud cover and the season.
Overnight: Colchani / Uyuni
The tour price includes Luna Salada, subject to availability. For bookings made 3–4 months or more in advance, we will prioritize this hotel.
For bookings made around 1–2 months before travel, we will still request Luna Salada first. If it is no longer available, accommodation will most likely be arranged at Hotel Rosario Uyuni, a comfortable 4-star hotel in Uyuni town.
After breakfast, continue south into the Bolivian Altiplano, crossing the Chiguana Desert and enjoying views toward Ollagüe Volcano.
Visit high-altitude lagoons such as Cañapa, Hedionda and Chiarkota, where flamingos are often seen, before continuing toward the Siloli Desert.
Optional Extra – Sunrise on the Salar
A private sunrise experience can be added before breakfast, subject to weather and road conditions.
Overnight: Flamencos Lodge, subject to availability. If it is fully booked, accommodation will be arranged at Malku Cueva or a similar lodge in the area.
Start early for one of the most spectacular days of the journey, travelling through the remote landscapes of the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve.
Discover Laguna Colorada, the surreal formations of the Siloli Desert and the famous Stone Tree before continuing toward Sol de Mañana, where steam vents and bubbling mud reveal the volcanic activity beneath the Altiplano.
The route also includes the thermal waters of Polques and vast desert landscapes surrounded by volcanoes.
Return to Uyuni
Arrive in Uyuni at approximately 4:00 PM, depending on road and weather conditions. We can drop you off in Uyuni town or at any hotel you have booked independently.
If you prefer a more relaxed ending, you can also add an extra night in Uyuni when booking your tour.
Continue to San Pedro de Atacama
If your journey continues into Chile, we can arrange the transfer from the Hito Cajón border crossing to your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama as an optional extra.

What is the best time of year for this Peru and Bolivia tour?
The journey can be enjoyed year-round. From May to November, conditions are generally drier with clearer skies and easier road access. From January to March, Uyuni has the best chance of showing its famous mirror effect, although this always depends on rainfall and weather conditions.
How does the itinerary help with altitude acclimatization?
Starting in Cusco helps you begin adjusting before reaching the highest areas of Bolivia. Cusco sits at around 3,400 m (11,150 ft), La Paz at approximately 3,650 m (11,975 ft) and Uyuni at roughly 3,650 m (11,975 ft). During the southern Altiplano journey, the route gradually climbs above 4,000 m (13,100 ft), with some areas reaching around 4,300–4,800 m (14,100–15,750 ft).
Is oxygen available during the Uyuni tour?
Portable oxygen can be requested for the Bolivia section of the journey. We recommend asking for it in advance so availability can be confirmed before departure.
Will I see the mirror effect in Uyuni?
The mirror effect is most likely during the rainy season, particularly from January to March. It depends on rainfall, wind and road access, so it cannot be guaranteed on a specific date.
How cold does the Uyuni route get?
Temperatures can drop considerably in the southern Altiplano, especially between June and August. Warm layers, thermal clothing, gloves and a good jacket are strongly recommended.
What happens if weather affects the route?
Snow, heavy rain, flooding or road conditions can occasionally require changes. Your guide and driver may adjust the route for safety while trying to preserve the main highlights of the journey.
What type of vehicle is used in Uyuni?
The Uyuni section is operated in a private 4×4, giving you more flexibility for photography stops, seasonal conditions and the pace of the journey.
Can I add stargazing or sunrise on the Salar?
Yes. Stargazing can be added on Day 6 and a private sunrise experience on Day 7. Both are optional extras and are subject to weather and road conditions.
Can the tour finish in San Pedro de Atacama?
Yes. On Day 8, instead of returning to Uyuni, you can continue toward the Hito Cajón border and add a private transfer to your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.
How far in advance should I book?
For the best choice of Machu Picchu circuits and Uyuni hotels, we recommend booking around 3–4 months or more in advance. Shorter-notice reservations are possible, but availability may be more limited.
Can I add an extra night in Uyuni?
Yes. If you prefer a more relaxed ending, an additional hotel night in Uyuni can be added when booking. Otherwise, the tour can finish in Uyuni in the afternoon and you can continue independently.
Can this Peru and Bolivia itinerary be customized?
Yes. The journey can be adjusted with different hotel categories, extra nights, stargazing, sunrise experiences, flights or an extension into Chile.
