Your Iquitos Amazon Adventure starts by firstly arriving in Iquitos. Here you’re able to accomplish last-minute preparations for your trip, like purchasing extra bug spray or flashlight batteries. Next, you’ll sweep the Amazon via speedboat, arriving thereafter at your accommodation, the charming Muyuna Lodge. After a warming introduction from lodge staff, you’ll hop in a boat again to begin your day activity. Cruising to local lakes, help your tour guide spot birds, sloths and monkeys hidden in vast jungle greenery. Following sunset, take an evening boat ride as daylight melts, searching for nocturnal creatures like caimans.
Rise and shine: the first activity of the day is a morning boat cruise to Lake Casha. Train your eyes to spot darting wildlife, as monkeys and birds are residence of this region and, as you will soon discover, these creatures are an elusive bunch. After enjoying lunch, you are given the opportunity to go piranha fishing at the lakes Purara and Corrientes. While waiting for your catch, strangler vines and the prehistoric bird, the hoatzin, will enchant your imagination. Once dinner is over, you’ll take a night walk in search of creepy crawlers like tarantulas, giant frogs and anacondas.
Eat a hearty breakfast, for the activity following thereafter is a 5-hour jungle walk. Along the trail, you’ll witness a vivacious array of flora and fauna, and perhaps even spot the rare Ocelot. Following a well-deserved lunch, your guide will then lead you to the San Juan de Yanayacu community. Here you can connect with locals, buy handicrafts or merely explore this remote village. End the day by taking another nocturnal canoe ride through the jungle.
Today, you’ll have breakfast onboard a small boat, where you can witness the endangered Amazon river dolphins, or search for iguanas on the riverbank. You’ll also glide alongside the biggest aquatic plant in the world, the famous Victoria Regia. Over lunch, you can discuss all of your fabulous wildlife encounters during the Iquitos Amazon Adventure before boating back to Iquitos.

We were more than delighted to visit Muyuna. The area is beautiful and well conserved. Our guide was fantastic, a local person that kindly answered all of our questions. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean. The food was delicious, and the staff attentive and charismatic. We could not recommend Muyuna more.

Katherine was incredibly accommodating and communicative in regards to my trip. I booked my trip back in December 2019 to take place in April 2020, and then the pandemic hit. She honored the rates quoted four years ago for this trip and advised me well on best options. A couple of issues had popped up regarding guides not being able to make settled-upon-dates and Katherine always had solid options and solutions. The trip itself was once in a lifetime – the 4 day trek was the right level of challenging and interesting, the 3 days in the Amazon were mind-blowing. I highly recommend booking your next Peruvian adventure through Katherine and PIE!
Our 4-day stay at the Muyuna lodge was excellent. The lodge was clean and comfortable and you can hear all the sounds of the jungle, day and night. The guides are local and they know a lot about the flora and fauna in the Amazon region. The food was delicious (breakfast, lunch and diner) and fresh fruit, coffee and tea were offered for free all day.
