Highlights
Itinerary Overview – 4-day Amazon Cruise
Day 1 | Your Introduction to the Jungle
The morning you land in Iquitos, you’ll be scheduled for pickup at either the airport or another accommodation to start your 4-Day Amazon cruise. From the airport, you are then scheduled to embark on a short city tour witnessing the wonderful sights of Iquitos. Afterwards, you will be transferred to the lake port, where small skiffs will take you to the impressive cruise ship R&F Amazona, operated by Amazon Cruise River & Forest Expeditions. Furthermore, following a brief introduction from the crew, your first Amazona lunch will be served before journeying to the Kukama community. Once there, you are given the chance to hear stories, attend dance ceremonies and purchase handicrafts provided by the Kukama. Returning to the ship thereafter, you are able to rest well or enjoy onboard facilities, like the entertainment room and observation deck.
Day 2 | Come Face to Face with the Mesmerising Animals of the Amazon
After chowing down on a hearty breakfast, you will shortly arrive to Monkey Island. Your guide will have no trouble enriching you with stunning facts of the many birds, insects and ancient trees surrounding your path. However, despite these exciting sights, the main attraction stands as the multiple species of monkeys scattered among the island. For instance, spider monkeys, squirrel monkeys, coati monkeys and choro monkeys call this island home. Likewise, resident on Monkey Island are also sloths, toucans, and the sneaky boa constrictor. Because the ship is scheduled northbound for the San Rafael Butterfly Sanctuary, your lunch will be served onboard. There, you will learn of the efforts to preserve and reintegrate butterflies back into their natural habitat. Before a delicious dinner, you’ll have time to kick back and glide through the waters in peace.
Day 3 | Say Hello to Ancient Fish
Rise and shine, for today you will watch the alluring sunrise ascend while in a small boat. Unlike most days, you are also served breakfast enveloped by nature. After having a full stomach, you’ll return onboard the cruise ship to sail for the Don Pedrito Fund. Upon taking a private tour, breeding information about the paiche―the largest freshwater fish―will be given, along with introductory viewings of birds, amphibians, alligators and turtles. Following the Fund visit, an onboard lunch is served, and you will thereafter have plenty of time for leisure. For this reason, don’t hesitate to take advantage of Happy Hour before eating your last dinner afloat the Amazon!
Day 4 | Last Day in the Jungle
To start the day, a leisurely breakfast will be served before disembarking the ship to visit the Manatee Rescue Center. These adorable species of Amazonian manatees are endangered in Peru due to poaching and their natural habitats being destroyed. Most noteworthy, you will be able to see them up close and learn about their diet, lifestyle and habits. Around 10:30 am, your 4-Day Amazon Cruise comes to a close, and your agency will then transport you to the airport, bus station or any other set accommodation.
