Itinerary Overview – 4-day Amazon Cruise

Day 1 | Your Introduction to the Jungle

The morning you land in Iquitos, you’ll be scheduled for pickup at either the airport or another accommodation to start your 4-Day Amazon cruise. From the airport, you are then scheduled to embark on a short city tour witnessing the wonderful sights of Iquitos. Afterwards, you will be transferred to the lake port, where small skiffs will take you to the impressive cruise ship R&F Amazona, operated by Amazon Cruise River & Forest Expeditions. Furthermore, following a brief introduction from the crew, your first Amazona lunch will be served before journeying to the Kukama community. Once there, you are given the chance to hear stories, attend dance ceremonies and purchase handicrafts provided by the Kukama. Returning to the ship thereafter, you are able to rest well or enjoy onboard facilities, like the entertainment room and observation deck.

Day 2 | Come Face to Face with the Mesmerising Animals of the Amazon

After chowing down on a hearty breakfast, you will shortly arrive to Monkey Island. Your guide will have no trouble enriching you with stunning facts of the many birds, insects and ancient trees surrounding your path. However, despite these exciting sights, the main attraction stands as the multiple species of monkeys scattered among the island. For instance, spider monkeys, squirrel monkeys, coati monkeys and choro monkeys call this island home. Likewise, resident on Monkey Island are also sloths, toucans, and the sneaky boa constrictor. Because the ship is scheduled northbound for the San Rafael Butterfly Sanctuary, your lunch will be served onboard. There, you will learn of the efforts to preserve and reintegrate butterflies back into their natural habitat. Before a delicious dinner, you’ll have time to kick back and glide through the waters in peace.

Day 3 | Say Hello to Ancient Fish

Rise and shine, for today you will watch the alluring sunrise ascend while in a small boat. Unlike most days, you are also served breakfast enveloped by nature. After having a full stomach, you’ll return onboard the cruise ship to sail for the Don Pedrito Fund. Upon taking a private tour, breeding information about the paiche―the largest freshwater fish―will be given, along with introductory viewings of birds, amphibians, alligators and turtles. Following the Fund visit, an onboard lunch is served, and you will thereafter have plenty of time for leisure. For this reason, don’t hesitate to take advantage of Happy Hour before eating your last dinner afloat the Amazon!

Day 4 | Last Day in the Jungle

To start the day, a leisurely breakfast will be served before disembarking the ship to visit the Manatee Rescue Center. These adorable species of Amazonian manatees are endangered in Peru due to poaching and their natural habitats being destroyed. Most noteworthy, you will be able to see them up close and learn about their diet, lifestyle and habits. Around 10:30 am, your 4-Day Amazon Cruise comes to a close, and your agency will then transport you to the airport, bus station or any other set accommodation.

Day 1 | Get Your First Taste of the Jungle

Arriving in Iquitos, Peru, the gateway to the northern Amazon, you will be picked up from the airport, bus station or your accommodation in the morning. You will embark on a short city tour of Iquitos and its most important sights. Afterwards, you will make your way to the newly-developed port located in Bellaviasta, Nanay. From there our small skiffs will take you to the beautiful cruise ship, R&F Amazonas, which is operated by Amazon Cruise River & Forest Expeditions. After a introductory briefing including safety procedures, activities and general rules, you will sit down for your first delicious lunch in the boat’s main dining room. The first stop of your 4-day Amazon Cruise Peru is the community of Kukama. The Kukama, native to the Amazon region, settled in the lush green rainforest long before the Spanish arrived. Suppressed for a long time, they are now finally able to openly celebrate their traditions and heritage. You will have the chance to hear their stories in person, watch their dance ceremonies and purchase some handcrafted souvenirs. Afterwards, you will return to the boat and will be able to rest for a bit or enjoy the boat’s facilities. Over 4 decks find the well-appointed suites, a dining room, an entertainment area and also a panoramic observation deck to spot some Amazon river animals already. Join us for a delicious dinner prepared from local ingredients at 8 o’clock in the main dining room.

Day 2 | Come Face to Face with the Mesmerising Animals of the Amazon

As morning dawns over the Amazonian rainforest, get ready for an exciting day full of activities. As you finish your breakfast, we will arrive to Monkey Island. There you will disembark for a walk through the rainforest. Our knowledgeable guide will point out colourful birds and insects, arachnids and ancient trees. The main attraction, however, will be the many species of monkeys you can watch in their native habitat. The island is home to spider monkeys, squirrel monkeys, coati monkeys and choro monkeys. Especially choro monkeys are known for their distinct call which resembles chirping. Also resident on Monkey Island, you might get a chance to see sloths, toucans and even a boa constrictor. While you will indulge in lunch back on the ship, we will sail north on the Amazon River towards the San Rafael Butterfly Sanctuary. There you will learn about the efforts to preserve the species and what the sanctuary is doing to reintegrate them into their natural habitat. Before dinner time is yours to rest. Relax in our entertainment area or check out the captivating sunset over the waters from the observation deck. Indulge in a delicious dinner in the dining room or enjoy a drink or two before you settle back into your quarters.

Day 3 | Say Hello to Ancient Fish

Today’s early wake-up call at 5.30am will be definitely worth it. You will watch the sunset from our small boats and also observe birds engaging in their morning ritual. Breakfast will be served among nature, which will be nothing like any meal you have had before. You then return to the main ship, so we can sail to the Don Predito Fund. During a private tour you will hear about the breeding of the impressive paiche. The fish, also called pirarucu, is one of the largest freshwater fish with up to 3 metres in length. It can be only found in Amazonian rivers and lakes and is an important part of the locals’ diet. Finally, you will get a look at more birds, amphibians and different species of reptiles such as alligators and turtles. Following the visit to the fund, you will return to the boat for lunch and then indulge in some leisure time. As this is your last afternoon on the boat, this is your final chance to fully enjoy its facilities. Why not take a seat on the observation deck or explore the area around the boat with one of our skiffs? Before dinner the crew will be waiting for you with a jolly Happy Hour and a few beverages of your choice. Perfect to reflect on the last few days with your fellow travellers and to sit back and relax before another delicious dinner. At 8pm make your way to the dining room to let the day die away and all the memories of the trip sink in.

Day 4 | Last Day in the Jungle

It is another early start today, but we want to take advantage of our last day together! After a leisurely breakfast, we will disembark the ship and head towards the Manatee Rescue Centre. The seal-like species of Amazonian manatees is endangered in Peru due to poaching and the destruction of their natural habitat. The centre is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned manatees. You will get up close with them and learn all about their diet, habits and more. Around 10.30am we will finish our 4-day Amazon Cruise Peru and will take you to the airport, bus station or accommodation.
