Departure: 8:00 AM from Cusco
Return: Approximately 6:00 PM
Your day begins with an 8:00 AM pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. Settle in for a scenic drive into the Sacred Valley of the Incas, as your guide shares insights about the region’s history, culture, and landscapes. Along the way, you’ll pass through breathtaking Andean scenery and the village of Pisac, known for its ancient ruins and artisan market.
By 10:30 AM, you’ll arrive in Patabamba, a peaceful Andean village perched high in the mountains (3,800 m / 12,467 ft), away from the tourist crowds. Here, ancestral traditions remain strong, and you’ll be warmly welcomed by local families.
Begin your immersion with a short walk to a scenic viewpoint overlooking the Sacred Valley. Along the way, your local guide will show you native Andean plants used for natural dyeing, food, and medicine. You’ll help gather leaves, flowers, and roots, which will later be used to dye alpaca wool with vibrant, earthy colors.
Back in the village, witness a live weaving demonstration led by skilled women who have inherited techniques passed down for generations. As the Pachamanca meal begins its slow underground cooking process, you’ll sit alongside the artisans and try your hand at spinning yarn and weaving on a backstrap loom. You’ll gain a deep appreciation for the intricate patterns you may have seen in local markets.
At this point, the Pachamanca—a traditional Andean meal cooked underground with hot stones—is nearly ready. You’ll learn about its cultural and spiritual significance, and sip chicha (a mild fermented corn drink) as the final preparations are made.
Once uncovered, the Pachamanca is shared in a communal setting. Enjoy a hearty, organic lunch featuring locally harvested ingredients, including potatoes, Andean corn, meats (or vegetarian options), and local herbs.
After heartfelt goodbyes, you’ll head back down the valley to visit the Pisac ruins. These stunning Inca remains include ceremonial structures, agricultural terraces, and sweeping panoramic views of the valley below.
Continue to the town center for a relaxed visit to the Pisac artisan market, famous for its handwoven textiles, silver jewelry, and colorful Andean crafts. This is the perfect opportunity to shop for authentic souvenirs, many crafted using techniques you’ve just seen in Patabamba.
You’ll return to your hotel in Cusco around 6:00 PM, carrying beautiful memories and a deep connection to the culture of the Sacred Valley.

Our experience with PIE Experiences on the Pachamanca and Weaving Tour in Cusco was truly magical. Rodrigo, our guide, brought the traditions of the Andes to life with his warmth and storytelling, making every moment unforgettable. Watching the Pachamanca being prepared was mesmerizing, and tasting its rich flavors against the stunning backdrop of the Sacred Valley was a memory we’ll treasure forever.
A special highlight was meeting Katherine, from PIE Experiences, and her delightful daughter Isabella. Their passion for sharing the heart of Andean culture added a personal and unique touch to an already incredible journey. This wasn’t just a tour—it was a window into the soul of the Sacred Valley.
